I really didn’t like The Baudelaire Fractal by Lisa Robertson. Despite that I was still curious when I came across this book second hand. The title: “Occasional Work and Seven Walks from the Office for Soft Architecture”, sounded intriguing and it’s Vancouver centred so I gave it a chance.

Though Robertson’s prose style that l disliked so much in The Baudelaire Fractal is still present here I found the bite sized essays more palatable. Still, it took me months to finish. I stuck with it predominantly for the Vancouver subject matter and there are photos.

Many of the essays in the book were originally published as catalogue texts by art galleries so if you like over the top, pretentious art speak maybe you’ll love this.
